Shelter | An exhibition supporting Outside In

  • Event date 12 - 22 January 2026
  • Event location London
Outside In is delighted to announce that its seventh National Open exhibition, Shelter, will tour to Christie’s, London, in January 2026.

This is a hugely exciting opportunity to share the work of 81 artists – many of whom face significant barriers to the art world. The exhibition shines a light on creativity and voices too often overlooked, while bringing the powerful theme of Shelter to new audiences in the heart of London.

Exploring ideas of safety, protection, home, and community, the artists have responded in deeply personal and imaginative ways, working across painting, sculpture, textiles, installation, and digital media. Their work reflects on subjects such as housing insecurity, homelessness, belonging, displacement, and resilience, highlighting the universal human need for safety and connection.

No one should experience barriers to entering the art world, an issue which Outside In is so effectively tackling. We are delighted to play a small part in their mission, by hosting the exhibition ‘Shelter’ at Christie’s.

Outside In provides a platform for artists who encounter significant barriers to the art world due to health, disability, social circumstance, or isolation.

Founded in 2006, it is a national charity that aims to provide a platform for artists who encounter discrimination or exclusion from the mainstream art world. In doing so it has saved, changed and improved numerous lives.

Outside In provides a digital platform for artists to show their work alongside three programmes of activity: artist development, exhibitions, and training. Outside In aims to create a fairer art world by supporting artists, creating opportunities, and influencing arts organisations.
