Event date 27 January - 16 February -
Event location New York & Online
This February, Christie’s New York proudly presented the collection of the legendary fashion editor André Leon Talley. As the first Black man to hold the title of Creative Director of American Vogue, Mr. Talley held a rarefied status in the fashion industry. His discerning taste extended well beyond fashion, as reflected in his personal trove which includes haute couture, handbags, jewellery, fine art, literature and the decorative arts. The collection is both glamourous and intimate, reflecting his decades-long relationships with fellow icons including Karl Lagerfeld, Diane von Furstenberg, Ralph Rucci, Tom Ford, Diana Vreeland and Anna Wintour.
Proceeds from the live and online auctions will benefit the Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York and Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina; both of which were close to Mr. Talley’s heart.
The live sale of the Collection of André Leon Talley achieved a total of $1,387,827 on 15 February. The auction continued with an online sale, which concluded on 16 February and garnered a total of $2,167,704. The sale was 100% sold by lot 507% hammer sold above low estimate.
