About the American Friends of the Moderna Museet
The Moderna Museet in Stockholm is indisputably one of the world’s greatest museums of modern art. Since opening in 1958, the museum has continuously deepened and broadened its collections. Through a tradition of exceptional exhibitions grounded by a succession of prominent directors, the museum shares a strong relationship with American art. Beginning in the 1960s, such American artists as Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Claes Oldenburg were introduced to the European audience, expanding the visibility and appreciation for post-war American artists.
Today, the American Friends of the Moderna Museet continues this tradition through the support and promotion of this historic institution. Since the founding of the American Friends in 2007, important works of art have been donated to and purchased for the Moderna Museet collection with funds provided by the foundation, such as works by Mike Kelley, Robert Mapplethorpe, Richard Prince, Cindy Sherman, Simone Leigh, Christina Quarles, Louise Bonnet and Rashid Johnson. The proceeds of the works to be offered in the 13 March Post-War to Present sale will directly support the museum's mission to continue building this stellar collection.

A note from the President
Moderna Museet is arguably one of the world’s most prominent museums of modern art and has a long history of building an outstanding collection.
As President of the American Friends of Moderna Museet, it is an honor and great privilege to help fundraise in support of this stellar art institution to ensure that its collection continues to evolve, and that the museum stays forever relevant and cutting-edge.
It is with humble gratitude that I thank all participating artists for their generosity and crucial support of our cause. It is such a powerful thing when artists come together for the arts.
I also wish to thank Christie’s for a great collaboration. Artists, museums, collectors, galleries and auction houses are all part of the same ecosystem. In today’s society, art is more important than ever. Art is what defines human society, what brings us all together, and it creates a sense of community. We need it more than ever!
—Helena Skarstedt, President, The American Friends of the Moderna Museet
