Lot Essay

The reed-embellished columnar legs and corner-tablets with panels of richly-figured mahogany are typical of the antique fashion introduced by Gillows of Lancaster in the early 19th Century. Similar reeded legs feature on an 1826 card-table pattern in the Estimate Sketch Books for 1826 (no. 3441).
