The moulded rectangular cornice with inlaid dentils above a panelled frieze and a pair of panelled doors enclosing six part cedar-lined slides and flanked by reeded pilasters, the lower section with two short and two long drawers, on toupie feet, the door locks stamped SW PATENT and the drawer locks stamped SWD PATENT

Lot Essay

The clothes-press is veneered in satin-figured mahogany that corresponds to that of a pembroke-table executed in the mid-1780's and bearing the label of George Seddon (see: R. Edwards and M Jourdain, Georgian Cabinet-Makers., London, 1955, fig. 176); however, the reeded pilasters and stump feet reflect the late 18th Century style popularised by Thomas Sheraton's Encyclopedia of 1804-7.
