Lot Essay

The model for these candelabra is very closely related to that of the candelabra supplied by Denière for the Grand-Trianon in 1837. There are examples known which bear the stamp of the famous bronzier Thomire. See H.Ottomeyer, P.Pröschel Vergoldete Bronzen, München 1986, vol I, p.393, fig.5.17.13. A closely related pair with scrolled candlebranches was sold at Sotheby's London, 15 June 1990, lot 156 and a further pair attributed to Thomire was sold at Sotheby's London, 8 December 1995, lot 282.
