cover 1774 entire letter from New Hampshire, U.S.A. to an officer of the 58th Regiment of Foot in London and then redirected through the London Penny Post to Gibraltar, inscribed "Paid 1/6" on front and endorsed "The Pacquet, a round box, which accompanied this letter (directed in the same terms and by the same hand) will be sent in few days, it cannot at present for want of opportunity. Saturday 24 December 1774" with good strike of the "PENNY/POST/PAID" for "G/SA" and faint circular timestamp alongside; perimeter spltting rejoined with archival tape. A rare and most desirable item.
