cover 1839 (31 May) entire letter from Hartlepool to London and variously re-directed within London on arrival, showing on the reverse variously dated and timed examples of the same marking in red indicating fourteen attempts at delivery, other markings with red "G.P." and black "T.P/Rate/2D." (both crossed through in ink) and a number of manuscript endorsements; some what fragile and damaged (stuck down at places to prevent further deterioration but still a most unusual and interesting item.
