Painted for John Russell, 4th Duke of Bedford, Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire, thence by descent at Woburn to the 12th Duke of Bedford, sold in these Rooms, 19 January 1951, lot 33, where it was acquired by the present owner on the advice of R.W. Symonds, Esq., for 45gns.
