Lot Essay

R. Buckle (loc. cit.) comments of this sitter 'Gertrude Williams was a model of whom Epstein made several nude studies, only one of which has survived. She may have posed for the rejected Strand Statue and she seems to be 'English Girl' (circa 1910)'.
