A 16-BORE SPANISH MIQUELET-LOCK SPORTING GUN

EIBAR, DATED 1816

With browned two-stage barrel with silver spider fore-sight and chiselled girdle on a gilt ground, the octagonal breech section inlaid with silver scrollwork and the inscription 'Fabricado En Eibar Por Blas De Olabe De Herraduras Año De 1816' and struck with six gold-lined marks (some gold missing), two of them the punzónes of the maker, gold-lined touch-hole, shaped tang incorporating the back-sight and cut with foliage on a gilt ground, bevelled lock with chiselled details on a gilt ground and stamped with the punzón of Arismendi (gold lining missing), moulded lightly carved figured walnut half-stock (probably reduced from full), chequered grip and fore-end, fluted butt, iron mounts chiselled on a gilt ground including trigger-guard, heel-plate and rear ramrod-pipe each with stylised scallop finial, the first with punzón of Joseph Bustindui, horn fore-end cap, and horn-tipped ramrod (sling mounts removed)
