A BELGIAN COMBINED HUNTING-SWORD AND 120-BORE D.B. PERCUSSION PISTOL

With tapering double-edged blade etched on each side over most of its length with running foliage and a trophy of arms, the latter retaining traces of gilding, and with single fuller on each side, the hilt with plain ebony grips, etched twist barrels, scroll engraved quillons partly inlaid with gold, the upper ones forming the hammers, and scroll engraved folding triggers (one repaired) and trigger-plate, the action signed 'J.A. Petry à Liège' on the left side inside the grip, Liège proof marks

J. Auguste Petry, Fabricant, of Liège is recorded between 1842 and 1867. He received a Belgian patent for a breech-loading mechanism in 1862
