Lot Essay

Dighton studied under William James Muller and exhibited from 1845. There are six other examples of the artist's work similar in style and technique at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
His only recorded visit to the Near East was a tour of Egypt, Sinai, Palestine and Lebanon and the Holy Land in 1852.
