Lot Essay

The iron is of typical Higo and finely forged.

A tsuba with a similar design by Hayashi Shigetsugu is illustrated in Sato Kanzan, Higo Kinko Taikan (Tokyo, 1964), p.455., and in The Henry D. Rosin Collection of Japanese Sword Fittings (Syz Ltd., London, 1993), p.50, pl. 27.
