The three-quarter galleried top with beaded moulding and sloped fall- front with gilt leather-lined writing-surface enclosing a fitted bureau well with two mahogany-lined drawers and two simulated drawers, with a fitted side inkwell drawer to the right above two slides and four side graduated drawers opening to the right and four simulated drawers to the left, framed by tapering turned reeded columns on gadrooned circular feet and castors, slight losses to moulding

Lot Essay

The style of the Davenport, with its reeded and tablet-cornered moulding on the door and reed-enriched columns and feet, is typical of Gillows' work in the early 19th century (see the Coed Coch library bookcase, lot 234).
