The canted rectangular folding top inlaid with geometric banding and enclosing a green baize-lined playing surface, the frieze centred by inlaid fleur-de-lys on a rectangular panel, on a canted rectangular spreading shaft inlaid with geometric banding and on hipped downswept legs inlaid with a tapering line and on brass caps and castors, stamped to the underside of the pedestal 'W. KNIGHT'

Lot Essay

There are two furniture makers called William Knight, one recorded in Canterbury, Kent, and the other in Salisbury, Wiltshire, although both are recorded at a slightly later date than this card table appears to be (see Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Leeds, 1986, p.519-20).
