Lot Essay

The figural style relates this picture to album leaves in the Wantage and Kervorkian albums (Cary Welch et.al.:The Emperors' Album, New York, 1987). They appear to be produced by a workshop which was augmenting existing 17th century Mughal albums. The seal of Jahangir is also found on some 19th century folios in the above albums.
