Comprising two sides, one from a manuscript with ghazals by Amir Shahi Sabzawari, each with five distichs of white nasta'liq written diagonally and horizontally, on buff and green paper, two triangular illuminated panels above and below, polychrome floral borders, one with additional nasta'liq border in rectangular panels, both signed Sultan Muhammad Nur, illumination signed Kamal al-Din , mounted on gold-sprinkled buff and blue paper

Lot Essay

Sultan Muhammad Nur was a pupil of Sultan 'Ali (see note to Lot 18). Qadi Ahmad describes him as a known calligrapher of Herat, who "wrote very well in a minute hand" (Minorsky. V. (trans): Calligraphers and painters, A treatise by Qadi Ahmad, son of Mir-Munshi, Washington 1959).
