Lot Essay

The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle was completed in 1913. The rifle was formerly the property of C.W. Mackworth-Praed, Esq. who competed in the events for sporting rifles in the Olympic Games held in Paris in 1924. Using Holland & Holland .240 rifles, loaned by the manufacturer, the British team, of which he was a member, won the gold medal in the double rifle event. He then went on to win the silver medal in the individual matches for single and double rifles. After the 1939-45 war he competed in the Olympic Games held in Helsinki in 1952
