Lot Essay

The hollow-sided ring fretted with flower-festooned acanthus scrolls in the picturesque manner and comprising plinth-supported sacred urns and an escutcheon bearing arms, alternating with a love-trophy of billing doves, sporting trophies of a hunter with his dog, a fisherman and a scene from Aesop's Fables is typical combination of motifs used by Irish goldsmiths in the Rococo period.
