Lot Essay

Ferdinand IV of Bourbon (1751-1825), King of Naples, the third son of King Charles III of Spain, was married to Maria Carolina of Habsburg, Archduchess of Austria (1752-1814) in 1768. Only nine of their numerous children survived beyond early childhood. Maria Carolina was a sister of Queen Marie-Antoinette of France (see lot 45).
