Lot Essay

McPhail studied at Liverpool School of Art and now lives in Lancashire. He has travelled extensively and illustrated many wildlife books including B.P. Martin's, Sporting Birds of the British Isles, David and Charles, Devon, 1992. He has regular one-man exhibitions at the Tryon and Swann Gallery in London and is considered to be Britain's foremost sporting bird painter. He is particularly noted for his evocation of the essence of the British countryside.
