A FLEMISH ROSEWOOD SECRETAIRE CABINET-ON-STAND
17th Century, altered in England in the early 19th Century
Decorated overall with ebony ripple-moulding, the rectangular top with alternating horizontal and vertical grained panels, above a long serpentine-fronted frieze-drawer with Cope and Collinson lock, the pair of panelled doors enclosing a fitted interior of twelve variously-sized drawers around a central door, decorated with an ebony arch and rosette surrounded by strapwork, enclosing a further fitted interior with nine variously-sized drawers around a central mirrored stage, the stage concealing a further four secret drawers, the back of the central door inlaid with rosewood, boxwood, mahogany and ebony, above a stand with secrétaire-drawer, simulated as two drawers, with a Chubb patent lock opening to reveal a green leather-lined writing-surface and six variously-sized drawers and five pigeon-holes, on spirally-turned legs joined by an H-shaped stretcher and on bun feet
