The scene of this tapestry is possibly taken form the Old Testament and depicts Rebecca holding a chalice being filled with water for Eliezer. The servant Eliezer was sent to Mesopotamia by Abraham to find a wife for his son Isaac. When Eliezer reached the city of Mahor in Chaldea he prayed for guidance, asking that whoever gave him and his camels water at the well would be an eligible woman. This proved to be Rebecca, who invited Eliezer to drink water from her jar. He took her back to Canaan where she married Isaac.
