2° (422 x 286mm). Hand-coloured engraved title with rococo border, 12 hand-coloured engraved plates, all by Adam Ludwig Wirsing. (Neat repairs to margins of title and final plate, some light spotting to text.) Modern marbled boards (extremities slightly scuffed).
"By profession a lawyer, Ledermüller shows a discerning interest in the art and science of botany, and in the newer science of microscopy... it was he who prepared the good drawings and the text for the book.. [Wirsing was] a precise artist [who] did the engravings for several botanical works, including J.C.Trew's Hortus nitidissimus": Hunt 581; Nissen BBI 1160.
