Lot Essay

This punchbowl commemorates the capture of two French ships, the frigate Pelerin and the merchantman Consalateur, by the privateer St. Ann, captained by Joseph Anthony, off the West Indies in 1762. The event was part of naval action which saw the capture of the entire French fleet. The bowl itself was probably made some years later.
