A Schrezheim fluted wall fountain, cover and shell-shaped basin
Circa 1765
Of pear-shape, the fish tail handles enriched in manganese and yellow, the lower part with a twin tailed mermaid and the cover with a seated figure of Neptune, the remaining surfaces painted in manganese, yellow and green with carnations and roses, the tap apparently contemporary (chips to glaze on mermaid's breast and around spout, hairline crack to basin)
The basin 11½in. (29cm.) wide, the fountain 14in. (35.5cm.) high

Lot Essay

A similar basin was in the Luitpold Museum in Wurzburg and destroyed during World War II. See Hans Erdner and Gert K. Nagel, die Fayencefabrik zu Schrezheim 1752-1865, fig. 290/2
