Details
A Pair of Le Nove teabowls and saucers
Circa 1795
Painted in the manner of Giovanni Marcon, the teabowls with finely dressed gallants and companions, a family, two mounted officers and other travellers before buildings and an estuary in a continuous wooded landscape, the saucers with a gallant and companion holding hands before a statue on a pedestal in a wooded vignette and a musician and companion with a child before arches with a canal in the distance between gilt line rims (some very minor rubbing to enamels of saucers), gilt star marks (2)

Lot Essay

The exceptional quality of painting has marked similarities to the signed bowl, cover and stand in the Museo Civico, Bassano, illustrated by Arthur Lane, Italian Porcelain, pl. 32. Apart from being an accomplished painter Marcon was reputed to have worked only on Tuesdays
