Eighteen albumen prints and one gelatin silver print, 5 x 7½ in. to 9½ x 11 in., six signed Deen Dyal (sic) or D.D. and each numbered in the negatives, titled, numbered and one dated 24 October 1886, in pencil and three with photographer's ink credit stamp Lala Deen Dayal Photographer Indore on verso, one matted. Lot Essay

Including temple studies at Jhansi, Khajuraho, Barwa Sagar and Sonagir. The two larger images show an interior view of the palace at Gwalior and a rock-cut Jain carving.

It was in 1886 that Deen Dayal retired voluntarily from Government Service and became a fully-fledged professional photographer. The honour of 'Raja' as well as 'Masavir Jang' was conferred on Lala Deen Dayal by the Nizam of Hyderabad.
