A LATE VICTORIAN BRASS-MOUNTED OAK HALL CHAIR
Reeded overall, the toprail with a brass balustraded gallery above an open back divided by an upright, with downswept arms mounted with brass stylised leaf sprays meeting roundels centred with a brass roundel, flanking a rectangular seat, on four square tapering cabriole legs, joined by stretchers, with two registration marks for 13 December 1883, with metal plaque inscribed EVANS & OWEN LTD BEDDING MANUFACTURERS AND HOUSE FURNISHERS BATH
22½in. ( 57cm.) wide; 24½in. ( 62cm.) high; 12½in. (32cm.) deep

Lot Essay

An almost identical mahogany hall chair stamped by James Shoolbred & Co. and with the same registration mark, was sold in these Rooms, 14 July 1994, lot 163. A pair of hall chairs, of the same model, were sold from the collection of Mary, Viscountess Rothermere, Christie's New York, 16 April 1994, lot 150, and a further single chair was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 8 February 1996, lot 43. All have the same registration mark.
