Each chair reeded overall, the dished tablet top rail clasped in a scrolled U-shape, the padded drop-in seat covered in yellow striped silk, the downswept stiles continuing into the sabre legs, four chairs with incised marks underneath the seat on the front seat rail I, II, V, VII, restorations (6)

Lot Essay

The reeding and swagged back may be inspired by two chairs published in Thomas Sheraton's Cabinet Encyclopaedia, 1805, plates 1 and 6. The latter chair has similar reeded sabre legs and downswept scrolled stiles.
