TWO CARVED RED LACQUER BOXES AND COVERS
the smaller 18th century, the larger possibly ming dynasty
One shaped as a qin supported on four feet and carved to simulate strings at one end covered by a cloth with floral roundels on a fine trellis-pattern ground; the other larger and of rectangular shape, with a shallow liner, carved on the cover with a peacock perched on a flowering prunus branch, the sides with prunus sprays on a trellis-pattern ground, both with rim chips
