The matt silver dial signed VACHERON & CONSTANTIN GENEVE, Roman hour numerals, subsidiary seconds dial (at VI), up-and-down dial (at XII), blued steel hands, hand setting via square on cannon pinion, matt gilt finish bar movement jewelled to the centre, with 'rubbed-in' jewels, the barrel bridge assembly inscribed VACHERON & CONSTANTIN. GENEVE. SUISSE, the bottom plate numbered 379718, going barrel, 14400 train beating 'half seconds' Earnshaw escapement, cut bimetallic balance with peripheral screws, blued steel helical balance spring, index arm to balance cock, inverted flat strip steel detent with jewelled locking stone to brass mounting block, brass bowl numbered 236498, gimballed in three-tier brass-bound mahogany box, the bottom section with inset rectangular brass plaque inscribed VACHERON ET CONSTANTIN GENEVE SUISSE 379718 with confirmatory Vacheron & Constantin document

Lot Essay

It is believed that only a very small number - possibly about six or so - of this Vacheron & Constantin model marine chronometer were made. Vacheron & Constantin records show that No. 379718 was made in 1929. Their copy certificate (included) shows it to have been sold in 1931.
