Lot Essay

This work is a preliminary study, without the lettering, for a poster for an exhibition of Rops' work which took place at the Hôtel Drouot in 1896. The exhibition was at the same time as a special edition of La Plume which was dedicated to Rops.

A similar version is illustrated in R. L. Delevoy, G. Lascault, J. P. Verheggen and G. Cuvelier, Félicien Rops, Paris, 1985, p. 237.
