Lot Essay

Illustrated in Iida, Katchumen Mononofu no kaso (Tokenshunju Shinbunsha, Tokyo 1991), p.68, pl. 49. It states that the hinges of the mask are strong and the forging of the iron is excellent. The maker Yoshinori received the name "Yoshi" along Yoshifusa and Yoshitami by the 9th chief of Mito clan, Nariaki. Yoshinori liked ryubu style masks and he made this mask following his senior Yoshimichi. For Yoshimichi's mask, see p. 64, pl. 43. of the same book.
