AN EARLY SHAKUDO AND COPPER TSUBA

A large plate decorated on both sides with a maple tree beside cascading and splashing water and a floating drum in low relief on shallow nanako ground, the details of maple and bamboo leaves in gilt, the copper base covered with shakudo, the mimi round and covered with separate piece
8.5cm.

Lot Essay

Both sides of the copper base are covered in shakudo of the same pattern. It seems to be the earliest type of general production.
