cover 1890 (17 Nov.) entire letter from Arthur Puzey to his father at East London, written in pencil at the Odzi River where he was serving with a detachment of the police securing the eastern highlands from the Portuguese, bearing British Bechuanaland 1887 2d. pair (small faults) cancelled by "PALACHWE/KHAMAS TOWN" c.d.s. (19.12) and showing, on reverse, Mafeking (23.12), Kimberley (27.12) and arrival (31.12) d.s. The contents mention that he met two policemen, who with 16 others, had taken Mintosa from the 300 inhabitants and captured the chief, the Portuguese General and the Baron Rezende who were being taken into Fort Salisbury as prisoners together with the Portuguese flag which had been pulled down at Umtasa.
