The Captain Norris-Newman Telegraph Stamps
1894 Capt. Norris-Newman, the the Reuter's Agent in Matabeleland, introduced a carriage service for messages from Bulawayo to the end of the Telegraph line being constructed from Tati to Bulawayo. This service was available to the general public to subsidise Newman's own costs. Fifty sheets comprising 18 stamps--6 of 2/6d., 6 of 5/- and 6 of 10/- denominations were produced locally. The quantities actually used were 2/6d.--151; 5/- --135; and 10/- --72.
