ROO, Gerardus de. Annales rerum belli domique ab Austriacis Habspurgicae gentis principibus gestarum. Ed. Conradus Decius. Innsbruck: Hans Baur, 1592.

Super-chancery 2° (310 x 195mm). Full-page engraved portrait of the dedicatee Archduke Ferdinand, full-page engraved imperial genealogical tree, engraved and woodcut coats-of-arms. (Minor staining.) Contemporary South-German half binding, blind-tooled pigskin spine and corners over pasteboard, dark-stained vellum sides with blind fillets, (corners slightly worn). Provenance: Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex (bookplate, 1844 Evans sale); George Dunn (bookplate).

Early example of a half binding, where a different leather is used for the spine and corners from the remainder of the covers. A number of very similar German half bindings is known, but they do not seem to share tools. Cf. Gruel, Manuel I, p.76.
