Lot Essay

Although the three figures cannot be related to any composition, the present drawing can be compared in technique with one of the studies for La Mort du Christ sur la Croix of 1692 in the Louvre, (N. Garnier, Antoine Coypel, Paris, 1989, no. 213, fig. 67) or studies for earlier pictures such as Christ guérissant les Aveugles de Jéricho of 1680 in the Louvre, Garnier, op. cit., no. 177, fig. 20 and nos. 180-4, figs. 22-26.
