An Apulian alabastron
350-340 B.C.
Reserved bands encircle bottom edge of foot, join of foot and body, and shoulder and neck, the scene of decoration covers the entire body of the vase and is bordered by ovolo band above and meander and crossed-square frieze below, both between reserved lines
A: Naked winged eros wearing elaborate jewellery with wings spread out to either side, hovers above elaborate floral design with acanthus leaves at its base, framed by spiralling tendrils wih flowers and sprays with buds, added white for detail
B: Elongated upturned palmette with spiralling volutes and elaborate half palmettes to each side, (repaired from several large fragments)
