An Achaemenid gold armlet
Circa 5th-4th Century B.C.
The hoop composed of a beaded gold rod with overlapping terminals, one terminal in the form of a duck with its head turned back over its body, the duck with deep recesses on its head, neck and body to take inlays (now missing), the other terminal smoothed over in recent times, repaired
2 7/8in. (7.4cm.) across max.

Lot Essay

Cf. O. M. Dalton, The Treasure of the Oxus, British Museum, London, 1964, for parallel neck rings and armlets with beaded gold rod hoops and one armlet with duck head terminals; several of the ornaments also have recesses for stone inlays or enamel.
