A large bronze aegis with bust of Isis/Hathor
Late Period, Dynasty XXV-XXVI, circa 7th-6th Century B.C.
The semicircular aegis surmounted by a head of the goddess Isis/Hathor, her eyes inlaid, wearing a tripartite wig with uraeus, surmounted by a crown of uraei and a sun disc between cow's horns, with outline of a broad wesekh-collar with falcon headed terminals at her shoulders, the reverse with three loops for attachment, repaired, tip of right horn missing

Lot Essay

This aegis would probably have been attached to the prow of one of the great processional barques and could be associated with either Mut, Isis or Hathor. Cf. Exhibition Catalogue, Nofret-Die Schöne, Cairo, 1986, p. 168, no. 79, Kairo 26/2/19/5.
