Lot Essay

The stool is serpentined in the George II manner and its carved enrichments, with shells framed by Roman acanthus, relates to the Warden's chair supplied for the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers circa 1740 (O. Brackett, An Encyclopaedia of English Furniture, London, 1927, p.157).
