David Dunbar Buick was born in Scotland in 1854 and emigrated to the United States with his parents at the age of two. The first production Buick appeared in 1903, a horizontal twin with overhead valves, followed by four cylinder cars and the famous "square" 20hp of 1908. In October 1908 Buick was bought by General Motors. By Buick production had reached 44,000 cars a year, and Buick made virtually all its own parts. Apart from the four cylinder cars of 1909, all had overhead valve engines.

The six cylinder engine was introduced in 1914 and post war the profitable 3.9 litre sixes and 2.8 litre fours helped to keep the struggling General Motors afloat. Front wheel brakes were standardised in 1924 and their famous slogan "when better automobiles are built Buick will build them" was born.

The example on offer today is an open five seat tourer from the 116 series (116" wheelbase), known as the Model 25. This series, along with the 121 and 129, features an almost completely new chassis design constructed of thicker steel and deeper cross-sections. Key suspension components were also strengthened and the engine was increased in terms of both displacement and power, and steel-backed main bearings were used by Buick for the first time.

This particular car has spent the majority of its life in Argentina and is sold requiring some restoration work. The panelwork is good and straight although some of the woodwork in the body will require replacement. The engine turns and is hoped to be running by the time of the sale, following a period of dry storage.

It is finished in green with black wings and black leather interior, all in good, presentable condition and has the benefit of a new hood. A good, powerful vintage open touring car, it is sold in free circulation within the EC, and Without Reserve.
