A VICTORIAN GOTHIC BRASS HEXAGONAL HALL LANTERN
The hexagonal body with Gothic panels, each with foliate finials and hanging Apollo mask flanked by cluster-columns, one with hinged door suspended on foliate-enriched serpentine bars, issuing from a dome, with chain suspension and three branch candle-holder, on foliate boss feet, lacking bottom plate

Lot Essay

Messrs. W. Ince & J. Mayhew's Universal System of Household Furniture, 1762, illustrated a pattern for a related hall lantern in 'an hexagon in the Gothic taste' (pl. V). A related 19th Century lantern was illustrated in Mallet, English and Continental Antique Furniture, London, 1987, p. 42.
A similar hall lantern was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 17 June 1993, lot 18.
