MONTEVIDEO AND THE RIO DE LA PLATA

Manuscript map of the mouth of the Rio de la Plata, [Spain: ca. 1760], ink and wash on paper, 2 sheets, joined overall 420 x 780mm, unsigned, the decorative cartouche unfilled.the map showing the estuary of the Rio de la Plata from the Punta de las Conchas, east of Buenos Ayres to Cabo Santa Maria on the North Shore and Cabo Sant Antonio on the southern shore, numerous coastal names, depth sundings and sandbanks, seas in green, coastlines and hills in black, stylised town symbols representing Buenos Ayres, Colonia del Sacramento and Montevideo, insert details of the bay. Montevideo and Barras flaw of (some minor soiling to margins); together with a small unfinished plan of "Puerto Cavello en la costa de Caracas", now Puerto Cabello [late 18th century].
