Lot Essay

This beautiful miniature counts among Dumont's best works of the Revolutionary period. It may be compared to his portrait of a young lady dated 1794/1795, from the Clore Collection (part I sold Sotheby's, London, 17 March 1986, lot 38) which it even surpasses by the charm and beauty of the sitter. For another miniature from this period, see lot 145.
This miniature will be included in B. Hofstetter's forthcoming catalogue raisonné of François Dumont's works.
