A SET OF EIGHT GEORGE III MAHOGANY DINING-CHAIRS, POSSIBLY SCOTTISH
Including a pair of open armchairs and a pair of dining-chairs en suite, of later date, each with a satinwood tablet toprail with pierced horizontal sides above a conforming stretcher flanked by fluted square stiles with concave tapering finials, above a padded seat covered in pale-blue silk with conforming loose cover, on square tapering legs with spade feet, the armchairs with satinwood panels on the arms and tapering reeded turned supports, four seatrails replaced, one of the armchairs inscribed in ink on the back seatrail '6 & 2 ELBOWS YN ¨... ' and one of the chairs inscribed in ink on the back seatrail 'BHZ....¨ YN' (10)

Lot Essay

This pattern of tablet and reed-enriched back features on a set of six dining-chairs, sold anonymously in these Rooms, 2 October 1986, lot 35, of which the armchair was inscribed 'Young Upholsterer 1809, Wm. Teiocks frame maker'.
