A REGENCY PARCEL-GILT ROSEWOOD BREAKFRONT SIDE CABINET
The associated top crossbanded with yewwood and satinwood and inlaid with boxwood and ebonised lines, above a scrolling foliate-applied frieze interspersed with lion-masks, above a central pair of yellow pleated-silk panelled doors inlaid with boxwood and ebonised lines enclosing a removable shelf, flanked by a pair of conforming doors each enclosing a removable shelf, flanked and divided by fluted tapering pilasters with massive giltwood paw feet, each side with three plugged holes

Lot Essay

A related low bookcase with reeded pilasters headed by brass lion masks, is illustrated in M. Jourdain, Regency Furniture 1795-1830, London, rev. ed., 1965, p. 81, fig. 193.
A writing-table with similar masssive giltwood paw feet and fluted tapering legs headed by lion mask panels was sold by the Executors of the late Sir Philip Shelbourne, Myles Place, The Close, Salisbury, Wiltshire, Christie's house sale, 25-26 October 1993, lot 67.
